Teaching the
Word of God in Simplicity and Sincerity |
Harry Whyte and his wife Priscilla had a desire to begin a Fundamental Church work in the Newtown, PA area for many years. The Whytes were active members of Grace Independent Baptist Church in Penndel, PA approximately twelve miles from Newtown. With the prayerful support of the Pastor and congregation, they proceeded to seek the Lord's leading of planting a Church.
September 1992
Encouraged
by Glen Childers, Harry and Glen began distributing "Gospel
Letters" in the Newtown area, seeking to find people
who would be interested in a Bible Study. Bill and Elizabeth
Blaak also showed interest in the work and helped with the
distribution. There were a number of responses, but none were
definite. The distribution of these letters continued for
approximately two years, when it was decided to set a definite
date to begin the work.
September 1994
The search
for a meeting place began, but there was no place offered as of
September 1994. The first prayer meeting was held in Glen
Childers' house, on September 30, 1994, with the most urgent
request of securing a place to meet. That Friday, they were able
to rent a room in the Newtown Racquet Ball Club for the month of
October.
October 1994
The first
Sunday service was held October 4, 1994 with twenty-one in
attendance. Evening services were held in Harry Whyte's house,
and prayer meetings in Glen Childers' house throughout October.
November 1994
In November
1994, M.V.B.C. was able to rent a small store in Newtown and
enjoyed having a place of their own to hold all their services.
The following year, they also rented the adjoining store which
gave them the additional room needed for Sunday School classes.
May 1995
In May of
1995, Harry Whyte was ordained by Grace Independent Baptist
Church and continued to work full time as manager of a supply
house while pastoring M.V.B.C.
September 1997
September
1997, M.V.B.C. was able to provide partial salary to their Pastor
enabling him to resign as manager of the supply house and work
there just two days a week.
June 2000
June 2000 M.V.B.C.
had their first Baptismal service with nine following the Lord in
Believer's Baptism by immersion
October 2004
M.V.B.C. Celebrated their 10th Anniversary
Ever since beginning in October 1994, the regular services have been Sunday School, morning and evening Sunday services, and Wednesday Prayer Meeting and Bible Study.
Additional ministries started include one nursing home, a ladies Bible Study, regualr bulk mailings of Gospel literature, and a visitation program which includes the delivery of Welcome Packets to each new family moving into the township. The Church has had a Gospel Evangelistic booth at a local fair for the past ten years, as well as distribution of Gospel Tracts during special local events.
We are currently seeking zoning approval in Upper Makefield Twp. to build a Church on our property.
Psalm 127:1 Except the LORD
build the house, they labour in vain that build it:
except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
